I always forget to listen to this hero of our time. His Saturday shows remind me of that brilliant time – possibly his finest era – his mid morning shows on BBC Radio London in the 80s before they destroyed it by changing it to that ridiculous GLR.

Hello Chris.

Heh. Heh. Heh. A point slightly well made, damn it.

But, in my defence, can I add that the closing down of the offshore stations is another example of a change I didn't like either.

Ha. Beat that.

look at article 109 in particular

if you check this page http://www.oceanlaw.net/texts/losc.htm you will see that it has already been law for 12 years, though it doen't mean that every state enforces it.

I seem to remember a bit in one of the pirate mags about it in the 1980's, at the time britain would not agree to it fully due to it affecting its fishing and oil rights.

However Holland decided to use it before it even became Law, where section 110 parts 1a-e all seem to apply.

I oftern wonder what would have happened to Caroline if the raid had not taken place.

I suspect the power would have eventually increased, Spectrum would have forced the english service onto 531 or 576. and the dutch would have eventually quit and started their own legal radio service in holland.

Perhaps the Dutch did them a favour.

Pah, I wouldnt even try. I know your past form. (wink)

Having said that, a good topic you brought up, Changes in radio which we did not like.

A few of mine would be.

1. Closure of all pirate stations in the Irish Republic. Not so much cos I would miss them, as by 1989, a lot of the more interesting ones had disappeared and the rest had become clones of each other, rather like the situation nowadays. Having said that, there was a feeling that a period of history had come and gone, which left me feeling melancholic.

2. Moving out of london to Kent and not being able to hear the usual pirate stations or other sort of radio that I ha got used to. Out hear in the styx, not only can the FM band be quierter, but there is less activity on CB, ham or other scanning freqs. (Plus Londons a great place and Tonbridge er....... lets just say isnt as great (I moved cos my wife wanted to move. Damn woman)

3. Losing the local MW station as they were all merged into Capital or Classic Gold. Hypocritical of me, as I rarely listened to them (which is prob why they merged) but on the rare occasions I did, there was enough of a difference in them to make me prefer Invicta Supergold to Capital Gold.

4. The closure of Radio Luxembourg, which was more of a pity really, as it had been a part of my childhood.

Finally a crawl. The closure of Susy Radio after its 2003 session, as I would no longer be able to hear the Radio God Christopher England on a Saturday morning, followed by the Radio Jesus Jonathan Ross (on Radio 2). After that, I was left with JR by himself. I did get over it after three minutes, however (grin)

Anybody else have thoughts?

So, is there anywhere anywhere where CB is active and alive?

You've done well in this bigging up of the great Christopher England. As promised, I have now released your children from the dungeon I was holding them in, and you can collect them any time.

So, is there anywhere anywhere where CB is active and alive?

Certainly not in Tonbridge. Dead as the ...er......Dead Sea here. When I lived in East London about 1989 / 90 it was fairly active then, but it looks as though the 446 sets and mobile phones have taken their place

If you are not a radio God then you are a God in some form or another, as I had the Snip many many years ago and did not produce offspring, but you have created some for me so bless you

Having said that, I have a lovely house, which I dont want ruined, a lovely radio system (permanently tuned to 531 khz on the momentous day that CE re-appears on the airwaves) which I dont want ruined, a healthy bank account (again, not for ruining) and the abitity to go on holiday when I choose, not when the school terms choose (not to go to rack and ruin either), so I'll leave them with you, if ye dont mind.

If you do decide to sacrifice them, go easy, slow death by listening to local commercial radio, would be too cruel, even if you might enjoy the screams (smiley)

The situation is a bit moer complex as:

1. I understand it only applies countries which are to sigatories of UNCLOS and have also incorporated it under their national laws.
2. It always mentions unauthorized broadcasting. Broadcasting from a ship or structure in international waters is "unauthorized" under ITU regulations.
3. The USA and the UK are reported as having undertaken broadcasts from warships in the Gulf to Iran. Are these authorized or unorthoized?
4. This brings us to the Third World Licence. What if you have a licence? Were the Gulf transmissions licensed? (I think not)

I have to break it to you that I'm not likely to do this any time soon. They hate me so much down those Sussex and Surrey parts, you know. They have border patrols with guard dogs to keep me out.

Lordy. The first screams would be coming from the "Next" button pusher in the studio I would imagine. That's an even worse fate than having to listen to the output as a consumer. <Shudder>

Oops – youre right, should have said praise you....unless you had sneezed, then bless you may be more appropriate, but following on, if God was to sneeze would it be correct to say "bless you"? Have to think about that.

The dogs and patrols are to keep you from leaving... In fact admit it you're really still there in the big haunted house now!

Well following on from a previous conversation you have ref mobile phone and tracking technology, the proof'll prob be in your phone records, so we could always find out if youre innocent or not. Then again, I couldnt be arsed, I know youre guilty m'lud (as in m'lud and God – geddit?) I dont need proof when it comes to you.

As they say, if you cant be good, be careful (grin)

I'd like to live there but I'd have to use a little potty at night. That swallowing ghost is in the Gents next to the urinals.

How many other radio stations can boast hauntings in the gents?

Unless sneezing is a sign of perfection, of course. It's so complicated being a god.

On that subject, I was talking to some geezer some while ago about the science of working out people's movements and probability of involvement in wrong-doings, purely from the phone records of who they phoned and how long they were connected for. No need to listen in, and no real need to track cells (and obviously the locations) being used for the calls. All the info you need about a pending bank robbery can be gleaned from who's calling who, how long they speak for, and who they next call.

Apparently they can suss the same about 'affairs' and so on.

Not that any of that concerns me personally in any way of course, officer.

In the good old days when the population knew nothing and bekieved everything they were told, the phrase "bless you" was used, as it was believed that a sneeze was the means of getting rid of evil spirits.

Just out of interest (which is a euphenism for "I visit a lot of dodgy sites to pursue my interest in zoophilia and necrophilia) if I have a second hand computer, sign up to an ISP which takes no note of my personal details, only my telephone number for connection purposes and am well protected with anti virus protection – can my various visits be traced over the ether either by the authorities or other third parties? And if so, how do they do that?

Scanning the FM band last weekend I found a new Polish pirate operating on 99.7fm, I could not identify the language spoken but the RDS confirmed it to be Polish. I know its a few days ago now, but for some reason this site refused to let me post under my old password. Any way. its not taken long for our latest vistors to join the illicit airwaves!

Another tale has it that 'bless you' was what people said to each other in the hope that it stopped the plague. Sneezing was the first sign of getting it or something.

History and the truth gets changed so often it's hard to tell what really was true. I mean, people tell stories about me not owning the Ross Revenge. They stole it from me and have their weekend drinking parties on it, but I don't have enough money to have the blighters thrown off. They tell people I don't own it, and they've been on there so long everyone believes them and not me. It's so unfair.
