Bland playlisting

Talking of bland playlisting, how's this for filling 30 minutes:

Sex as a Weapon = Pat Benatar
Waterfront = Simple Minds
Control Myself = Maroon 5
Heartache Tonight = The Eagles
It ain't over till it's over = Lenny Kravitz
Barbara Ann = Beach Boys

So, all oldies, all mainly singles. But, which radio station?

But being serious, if it floats someone's boat (DOH), then good. But not for me, to old.

And now from the other end of the spectrum...

I only know the Pat Benatar, Eagles and Beach Boys tracks. No idea of the others. I suspect they're going to be far too new for me, LOL.

Careful, you'll get slagged off by the Caroline Obsessives.

Ok, here's another half hour of bland oldies radio:

Welcome To The Jungle – Guns 'N' Roses
Common People – Pulp
Heaven Is A Place On Earth – Belinda Carlisle
Holiday – Madonna
Ooh Wee – Mark Ronson

So, which station played these in a half-hour sequence, and recalling the previous lot, which station played them?

Was it the same station, or two different stations?

Both samples are taken from morningish time.

Come on, let's get guessing. Smooth? Magic? Real? Capital? "Radio Caroline", Jackie?

Should we have a prize for he/she who gets it correctly?

So then, what about the latest sample I posted?

Sigh. I thought there were radio experts here who'd instantly be able to tell me the name of a station from its playlist!

It all seems to have been manufactured by "Quaker", so I'll guess it's R2.

To summarise the two emails I posted.

There's two different 30 minute sweeps, taken from morningish times, from two different days.

Sweep One:
Sex as a Weapon = Pat Benatar
Waterfront = Simple Minds
Control Myself = Maroon 5
Heartache Tonight = The Eagles
It ain't over till it's over = Lenny Kravitz
Barbara Ann = Beach Boys

Sweep Two:
Welcome To The Jungle = Guns 'N' Roses
Common People = Pulp
Heaven Is A Place On Earth = Belinda Carlisle
Holiday = Madonna
Ooh Wee = Mark Ronson

So, which radio station(s) played these songs? Both sweeps may be from the same radio station, or may be from different radio stations.

I'll think of a crappy prize for anybody who gets it in the next 12 hours or so, heh heh.

It must be Radio Caroline then. It was in the morningish when you decided you hated them

No, I don't think there was a specific time when I decided I hated "Radio Caroline".

Mornings just happen to have been when I took the two samples.

Can't you deduce from the songs played which station played them, rather than jumping to (possibly wrong) conclusions?

When you started a thread 'Radio Caroline is still radio borderline' you said you listened for half an hour in the morning and decided you hated it.

I'd had my radios taken away, so I dunno. I've got them back now :-) but I can't guess, cos lots of stations play music like that. I'll have a think.

And btw, why you hate Johnnie Walker? He used to play new stuff on his Radio 2 show (if only it came back so he werent restricted to just 70s stuff)

I hated the experience of listening to unadventurous oldies, tired old standard radio presentation and obvious segues* with voices that sounded like they were reading Pathe newscasts from the 1960s.

* But why do all radio stations have to bloody segue the songs? What's that about?

And btw, why you hate Johnnie Walker?

Nothing personal really, I just find his ego far greater that Simon Cowell's and don't like his smarmy sounding voice. I also object to convicted criminals like him (a cocaine user that allegedly tried to sell drugs to journalists) getting any form of recognition (an MBE) for doing nothing compared to the tens of thousands in this country that actually made a difference. Maybe it helped to be Tony Blair's mate, I dunno. I object to the proven lies in his book and his attempts to re-write history in his favour.

But apart from that, I'm cool with him.

How about "swinging" Radio One?

Are you saying both sweeps are from Radio One?

So, so far, we've got one vote for "Radio Caroline", one vote for Radio One, one for Radio Two, and one vote for "nudge nudge wink wink we know which station you mean Chris".

C'mon guys. I thought we had experts here!

What proven lies? What are they? I'm not saying they're not, just interested to know.

I'll have a go and say all of the Magic network. because no matter where you are or what time you listen to a Magic station you will probably hear those songs for at least a month in different order.
