Help please -- MP3 splitting

13 messages

Is it possible to do this?

Take a one hour long MP3 and split it in n portions (say 20) such that the 1 hour sound track will play continuously without pause or fading?

I want to be able to listen to listen to MP3s (not music) but having the option of going  forward and back between tracks.

I found a program called Coolsplitter but it injects fading.

A programme called Mixmeister will do this.

If you put you continuous mp3 in MixMeister then add the label markers where you want to split it up, then burn the cd using mixmeister it should do the trick.

Thank you, Steve.

Effectively, I just want markers to be added, but I don't want the overhead of having to insert the markers manually. I just want a time division. I'll have a look into this.

This program may be of use: http://www.nch.com.au/splitter/

I've not used it myself, but have done with a few of their other offerings – the rest of the site is well worth a look.

Thank you, Charlie.

This program appears to work, but after various attempts it generates no files at all in the target directory. I'm perplexed.

I've just had a little play around with it and got it to work first time no problem.

Maybe try re-installing it.

Steve. That is really good of you.

I will re-install this evening.

Rather unhelpfully for me, Cool Splitter (which I have been playing with) introduces a fade between split files. Ok for music people but not for speech.

I reinstalled and this time allowing the system to install the supplementary software. It works jolly well and doesn't insert a fade in.

This is now looking very good.

I haven't written here much before, just enjoy the read, however I thought I'd reply to this one.

I don't think the following will do for what you're after as it's designed for WAV files and probably more for music, but it's excellent at finding the gap between tracks and then splitting the files. It applies the split immediately before the next track starts. In the past I've tried other software but it has applied the split to early so sometimes cuts the end of the previous track off (like when it's fading out).

I've used it a lot when I've recorded some of my old vinyl and cassettes onto the pc and then converted to MP3 files or burnt them to CD for listening in the car etc.

The splitting bit is freeware but you can upgrade and it does other stuff like take the hiss out or the crackles from old vinyl. I actually use other software to improve the sound quality and only use this to split the tracks.

It's simple software but effective.

Quoting a previous Stephen Wedley contribution:-

Welcome on board. Anorak Nation is small but perfectly formed because of the people who form it, of which you are now one!!

Hey, brilliant. I was recently looking for exactly this. I'd previously had problems with the 'split' occurring too early and then having to go back and adjust it manually, or do it from the far too complex Adobe Audition. Thanks for the heads-up!

* Christopher England just said that *

WELCOME ON BOARD.

I'll have a look at this.

Voice people seem to be less well served than music people by such software.

I wonder whether there are MP3 players that will go forward and back in time segments. It painful having to hold a finder on a button to go fast forward or fast back.

Charlie

Thank you, Charlie.

I do try hard to be positive, but old anorak habits click-in from time to time.
