I see in the paper this morning that a number of car manufacturers are planning to introduce in-car wi-fi technology in the UK. A magnificently named fellow called Sterling Pratz, is quoted as saying car passengers will be able to read/ send emails, access the net and watch films etc. Presumably they can also listen to any radio station in the world as well.
With nobody seeming willing to put DAB sets as standard in cars- I wonder if wi fi technology will make DAB even more redundant than it is now? After all- who's going to want to listen to a half baked gurgling DAB signal which offers everything you can get on normal radio plus Planet Rock and some Birdsong (what a USP!) thrown in, when they can get zillions of stations in perfect quality sound on their in-car computer? Is it time the UK Government and more particularly the BBC finally gave up with flogging this dead horse farce that seems to be DAB?
