Quoting a previous Steve Martin contribution:-
My view on
these right wing groups is always report the facts and people will see
them for what they actually are, if you like give them enough rope to
hang themselves by.
Exactly. Remember the days when actors voiced that IRA leader Gerry Adam's voice because his voice wasn't allowed to be broadcast? How stupid was that? It just rallied people to their cause. I think it is important that everybody is allowed to speak or say their bit fully and completely.
Some of what the BNP says at first hearing makes a lot of sense, but it's when you then explore the practicalities of what they are saying that you realise that some of them have other more sinister issues, or the concept is actually unworkable. However, them being shouted down at any opportunity makes them attractive tothose who take they attitude that if the Government only bans good and fun things. So, I agree with your rope and hanging themselves position.
The argument also might be that there is something very valid in what they are proposing, but it just needs to be adapted and worked through more humanely by proper politicians. However, if their proposals are always masked by screaming and shouting banshees, or we (as freethinkers) are made to feel we are doing something illegal or immoral by stopping to listen to them, then their 'gems' of ideas are lost.
In theory I would probably agree, but I still reckon there will be so
many miscarriages of justice that there would be a public outcry.
Yet how come the outcry about people 'getting off' on technicalities or whatever due to miscarriages of justice isn't equally objected to? We should be up in arms about people who are not being put away.
Now that really does piss me off. It really annoys me that criminals get
out early because we just do not have anywhere to put them.
The answer's very simple. Build more prisons, or bring in the death sentence to cull the prison population.
