Quoting a previous miamigorocks Geoff contribution:-

if you want anarchy
listen to good old nick. The thought of Nick Abbot not been expelled
from the studio would be worth waiting for, put all those safe radio
phone ins presenters to shame, hurry up and get that new ship.

I like Nick a lot. I've really warmed to him doing the weekday evening 7pm thru 10pm slot. I know he's a lot dumbed down from his 'outrageous' Virgin days (how much did the Radio Authority / Ofcom fine him / the station over the years?), but he's actually sounding very much alive and I think he's getting the balance really right between 'monologuing' and taking calls. We need more people on the air who can actually 'monologue' properly, rather than 'phone in show hosts'. As Nick has gotten older, his observational powers and wit have matured into something that is at times laugh out loud funny and entertaining, and at other times wise and should make any free thinker stop and consider things from time to time. He also seems to cross over all age groups and can communicate with 'em all.

I doubt they'll give this slot to Nick on a long term basis, but I believe he's there up until at least Christmas. Let's hope the numbers show he has worth.

But, for me, an idea radio station would be one full of good orators of a Nick style or far more radical, with no boundaries to their freedom. Not in a boring way, but in a slightly WWE way.

This is what should be coming out of a North Sea boat. Imitating an iPod won't change the world, but speaking carefully and clearly and helping release people's minds to think, will.
