Longstanding UK pirate station WNKR gets it's name from the area that they used to broadcast from, West and North Kent. The idea was to come up with a tongue in cheek name and West and North Kent Radio seemed to fit the bill, the initials WaNKR seemed a bit strong, so before long it become known as WNKR.
