Hi Alan
I am of the old school like you, and find spelling mistakes annoying, but we were lucky to come from an era when the English lesson was about grammar and spelling. Younger generations do not have the “inbuilt” knowledge of spelling that we have, I know you are of Polish descent so may be your father instilled this in you, it is often the case that when someone learns a second language, they are far better at grammar and spelling than the natives of their chosen country. However I think it is wrong of you to publically berate a contributor of his spelling, and then correct their post like a teacher, if you must, why not e-mail them privately? This is a friendly forum, let’s welcome posters, and not chase them away. By the way I was joking with the “old fogey” remark, but you seem to group yourself as one : ),why not give Fusionfm a fair trial, after a while you may enjoy Mark’s station.....only 5 minutes listening, you will be striped of your Anorak if you are not careful!

I think that it is unhelpful to go down the route of correcting a contributor's typos, spelling, style and punctuation. The complainer must be careful to be whiter than white and to be careful about how many dots he puts into his ellipses!

I work alongside many outstandingly clever engineers who have difficulty in writing and spelling but who are high earners and accomplished in their fields.

Many of us who contribute to message boards are not seeking to perfect our entries.

As I have received a number of said comments and PLEASE people don't panic as I'm not worried anymore, I am very public about being dyslexic, I even have to check the spelling in Google – how daft is that?

When it was a problem was as a small kid when teachers would be a tad nasty about my work, one suggesting to my late Father that the job for me was XXXXXXXXXX. Well thanks to my folks they didn't give up on me and I got some qualifications – good news is I could draw the answers :-)

I point the above out as I do know some become very red faced when the subject comes up, me I couldn't give a toss now. But let's spare a thought for those who maybe don't have a thick skin as I do.

Mind you I'd like to see how people correct the words of Sir Richard Branson, or Sir Steve Redgrave, Sir Jackie Stewart, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Edison and the FABULOUS CHER!

But do spare a thought for those who might not be as plucky as those listed above.

Thanks
Eric

Plus the particular word that is being referred to is spelt that way by those in the colonies!

The commercial radio chart show hit40uk is to no longer reflect CD sales in its weekly countdown. This historic move comes after figures show 96 per cent of sales in the charts are downloads only.

The networked Top 40 chart show is hosted by Lucio Buffone and broadcasts on over 130 UK commercial radio stations every Sunday from 4pm to 7pm.

Paul Jackson, Group Programme Director, 95.8 Capital FM, The Hit Music Network, The Xfm Network and Hit40UK said: “Downloads have now become the driving force for record sales, as the statistics clearly show. It makes complete sense that the UK’s most listened to chart show reflects the changes in how people are listening to music. We constantly look to innovate and sit at the cutting edge of music taste and trends.”

Lucio Buffone, Hit40UK host said:” It’s exciting times for Hit40UK to be the first chart show to follow the downloads movement.”

Personally i am surprised that CD sales of singles are now so low.I expected maybe 60 to 70 % but 96% effectively means the CD format is dead now for singles sales. I have not seen any figures for album sales yes but would suspect the percentage to be significantly lower but in this rapidly changing media world , anything is possible.

Did I get it wrong then – I thought the Beeb were already doing that?
