which would be fine if it were not for the fact that Caroline in the 1980's was utter shite. Serves as a reminder to me of why I don't listen to this type of radio any more and haven't done for some tim "Hey DJ"! Keep spinning that wax. Play me two in a row and drop in that little jingle up to the vocals. Ughh, I may not be at sea but pass me the bucket I think I am going to vomit.

Oscar to be honest I was really thrilled when Caroline came back on air in Aug 1983, blasting out a great signal from the knock deep. As we got into mid 1984 Laser was doing the business, Caroline was a poor second place. They had a variety of formats (I was still glad they were there by the way) that Jamming 963 with all that awful reggae stuff that no one had ever heard of, some of the jingles were positively Radio 2 or even ILR sounding. My particular favourite broadcasts from Caroline in the 80s was Caroline Overdrive, and Caroline 819 "The Overnight Alternative", some great music and some pleasantly weird presenters or jocks whatever you want to call them. For all of Carolines imperfections, she is still sadly missed by radio listeners all over Europe, and i'm one of them. You can't live in the past and wallow in sorrow at it's demise, you remember the good times, everything has it's season.

Friday 4 July – 13 JulyHowever yesterday evening 1900–2200 the station
seemed to experience a SEVERE programming technical problem which
resulted in this listener tuning out.
I need to know who/what it was. This was a historic broadcast for me…
Bob; I'm shocked that you would ever…I didn't hear it so don't really know what happened but I'm sure it was
supposed to be some guy called Printz on at that time ex Radio City 299 if
that helps.
cheers Steve;an unforgettable broadcast. The bloke needs deep sixing with concrete galoshes on from the central gun tower….. It's all wet and windy on the fort today;that didn't occur last year so should bring it's own challenges..like where water now comes in… regards,
Jim.

Mrs Sterling is currently laying on the bed with her brand new red
coloured Nintendo DS doing her "braintraining".I never previously saw Mrs Sterling as an anorak.
At this rate, I'm going to have to defend the study/shack.
Frightening!!!Just tell her that analogue radio (FM/AM) is far too complicated, the Government have wrecked it, and it really is out of fashion now;nobody listens anymore; and therefore no point going there(!)..Governments really can't handle critisism and dissent and any revolutionary feelings or urges now rising in her ageing body are just too late and out of time. She maybe upset for a while, but it should leave your Kingdom unchallenged and your study/shack safe..if she just sticks with the DS you'll be alright.. regards,
Jim.

weekend of Radio Caroline in September this year? I need to get my finger
out and book travel and accommodation.Happy days!

Hallo everyone. The receipt of R.S.R. at Gouda, the Netherlands, was
good between 11:00 AM and 11:20 AM but poor around 2 PM. Last year the
receipt on the first day was véry véry good and all days thereafter very
good. Has R.S.R. the power of de 1278 kHz-transmitter decreased between
11:20 AM and 2:00 PM? Before 11:00 AM and after 11:20 AM till about 1:50
PM I could not receive R.S.R. because the very strong 1296
kHz-transmitter of the BBC was on air. If that BBC-transmitter is ON
air, I can NOT receive R.S.R. at all! All times are BST. I use the same
radio as I did last year.
Greetings of Nico from Gouda, the Netherlands.
Hallo everyone. The receipt was Saturday and Sunday equal as the receipt of last year of the 1278 kHz transmitter. But Friday afternnon the receipt was waeker than Saturday and Sunday. See my message above. Greetings of Nico from Gouda, the Netherlands.

Yes I heard that today. It really brought home to me how poor Radio Caroline was at the beginning. Thank God it improved over the next few years. I think people probably didn't notice how poor it was because they were just happy to have an alternative to the stuffy old BBC! Compared to later recordings that I have heard of Caroline this really showed how bad it all was at the start.
Had WNKR on this afternoon while painting, enjoyed it and it helped pass the time as I hate painting! Just one question though, where were you today Mr Martin? Do you have a letter explaining your absence? Erm actually that's two questions isn't it?

Indeed, and as a holidaying nine year old I asked my Uncle, who was in the Royal Observer Corps (which still existed in 1964) what that funny looking ship was, to which I recall the reply as if it were yesterday "I thinks that's one of those pirate radio ships we have been hearing about"
