I was bored (long weekend, and not working, family away, me being electronically tagged and not allowed out, etc) so I thought I'd have an explore of MySpace again after many years of hating it, but resigning myself to the fact that you seem to need a MySpace presence as well as Facebook in this non-individuality cyber world in which we play.

So, I've put some additional details of Christopher England up on www.myspace.com/christopherenglanduk and am having a play. Anybody on MySpace wanna be my 'friend'? Heh heh.

More importantly, anybody any advice on themes and general prettying it up. It always seems so damn complex to me, and I ain't no technophobe, honest guv.

Now then. I know Mr Jaybs said he regularly uses MySpace (although mainly for American things), but does anybody else use it? And is it useful or just a toy? I certainly can't immediately see any use apart from it being a centralised lazy way of having a web presence. But, what's it for? For chatter, for private mail, for pictures, for pushing music or videoes? Apart from the game of desperately trying to amass 'friends' you don't actually know, I don't fully get it. And, like Facebook, it seems amazingly clunky and clickerty to operate.

See, at least with Twitter and Jaiku and the fact that they and applications for them, work with your mobile and quickly communicate between (real) friends as well as provide news and blurb feeds seems to have a purpose. But, hey, horses for courses. ('Hey', 'Horse' ... see what I sort of did there?).

Further boredom sent me off on my weekly look round other radio chatty places today.

Is it me or is Digital Spy now almost as boring and an up-its-botty non-conversation as Media UK? Blimey.

I do like that Musicradionews board though. Very lively, lots of used-to-be and wannabe people there. A good mix. (A better anorak mix?)

I hopped into Garry Stevens board. Still full of people desperate to make reference to me at every opportunity, but far too many posts to do anything but speed read the latter ones. (Do I really deserve such weirdoes stalking me on a board to which I don't even post? Can't they email me directly if they really feel the need to talk about me? Heh heh.)

And I tried that new Freeradio board that seems all but empty and not in use. Any posts that are there seem lost in a sea of news feeds. I'm guessing nobody's posting there 'cos you have to register an email address. Why are people so scared of registering in places? Oh yes, I remember, silly me, it's 'cos they can't bully and pick on people whilst remaining anonymous.

Anyway, that's my nose round at others done, but I did notice the latter two places making reference to Planet Caroline and some AM transmitter (Indeed, the wild and wacky character 'Will' in one of the postings some how even managed to work my name into his gleeful report about Planet Caroline such is his very strange yet sweet obsession with me).

Apparently, Planet Caroline has a big AM transmitter somewhere and there are pictures of it. Of course, by the time I got round to clicking on the links provided, they're all different and the pictures have gone, damnit.

Talk is that this is in New Zealand, but I thought Planet Caroline was in Tenerife. So, I'm confused now. The Planet Caroline site has no reference to Tenerife any more. Wasn't it Planet Caroline in Tenerife sharing dayparts with Radio Seagull that got Caroline Maidstone presenters banned from working on Seagull? Or am I confused with another Caroline?

Blimey, with all these 'Carolines' around, maybe there needs to be a central 'International Caroline Register' a bit like the domain name registries!

So, anybody got the picture that's no longer on the Planet Caroline site?

PS. Had a nose around the Caroline TV site ( http://planetcaroline.net
) which is a sort of Youtube, but with loads of anoraky footage and TV theme tunes and opening credits from the 60s. Not that I was watching those, honest guv. Definitely not The Prisoner one. Or the first ever Popeye one. And why does the big guy want to kill Popeye's gal? It's never explained. Sigh. Life is so confusing.

I got drummed into myspace with my tech savvy offspring quite a few years ago now.. I can't keep up with 'em.
However, prefer it to Facebook etc, now i have got to know what it is all about, had some good shouts. They are trying to get me on 'wayn' now. Where are you now. Don't like it.I'm not doin' it!

Hope that all of you enjoy the bank holiday weekend.

Actually I prefer Facebook.  The interface on Myspace is dead clunky, and FB will be having a total makeover in a month or so.

The reason you don't totally get it, is the same reason I don't totally get it. Age.

Despite your protestations, you ain't gonna see 19 again, and these things are for the young folk.  But as far as I can see, yes,
the aim is to accumulate as many friends as possible, and "hook up", which is young person speak for getting laid.

Music seems to be more common on Myspace, but a lot of it is shite IMHO.  Again, it may appeal to the younger of the species.

I prefer Jaiku to Twitter, but rarely use either, as (a) I don't have many friends (sniff), and (b) those I do have are not particularly
interested in the minutiae of my dreary humdrum existence - or at least not enough to want an SMS every time I break wind.

Again, young person thing.

Hmmm. I don't like Facebook. I don't like MySpace. But if I had to pick one, Facebook seems kinda easier and cleaner. I guess its downside is that it doesn't really have public profiles and is a sorta closed shop. Hurumph. Anyway, thanks for the add. Oh, and how come the two people from here that have kindly befriended me have (as usual) got hundreds and hundreds of friends...? Is it cos I's black?

They are trying to get me on 'wayn' now.
Where are you now. Don't like it.I'm not doin' it!

Surely Wayn is only good when you are a very very frequent traveller? And, if I remember correctly it's really yet another Twitter / Jaiku, etc. So, DON'T DO IT! :-)

Get your kids on Twitter!

Well it is no secret that Will is a friend of mine and has been for many years,

He was digging around the Planet Caroline site and came across the pics you mention, As soon as he started posting about them on the Garry Stevens board they started to disappear, As if someone had posted them to early and didn't want anyone to know about it yet,

Further investigation has revealed that someone from this country with the initials AY who may be linked to Planet Caroline has just won a AM licence in New Zealand,

Of coarse this is not the first time there has been a Radio Caroline out there,

I was privvy to a preview of some ideas behind the implementation, and
I think it looked really good (despite me hating Facebook). If they
can do those externally viewable profiles and sort out the control
folks have over their own layout then I guess it then properly competes
with MySpace. Plus a simplified and centralised privacy control will
stop old people being so scared of it.

The reason you don't totally get it, is the same reason I don't totally

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. You
cruel Boris Johnson lover (Facebook anti-Boris group members reference,
so only joking!)

Despite your protestations, you ain't gonna see 19 again, and these

I've got my fingers in my ears. I can't hear you.

But as far as I can see, yes,

Aha. So, which of the MEN that have made me their friend am I supposed
to get laid by? Damn. Life is so confusing when you're only 19. Yes,
Tim, ONLY 19, ok?

those I do have are not particularly
interested in the minutiae of my dreary humdrum existence – or at least
not enough to want an SMS every time I break wind.

I was looking at the Twitters of a well known gentleman from the world
of radio t'other day and thinking, "This man needs to get a life. No,
really. This is not a life he's telling his public about. No wonder he
is currently single." But, it is cool to 'follow' them and know all
about them without having to ring them to say, "Hey, remember me? So.
What's happening?"

And in the world of TV production it can be quite good to rapidly
assemble the masses or make them collectively aware of how an edit's
going. And there's the add on of feeds like news or the three of four
times a day Twitter of the latest contribution to discussions here.
Not that I'm an Anorak Nation anorak or anything, honest.

Aha. The 'AY' to whom you refer actually comes from New Zealand or thereabouts I think, so that would make a lot of sense. I haven't seen him for many many years and have no idea what he's up to or where he is these days. He is an international man of mystery with a very young and highly attractive wife, so maybe they now have a farm and need to sing the sheep to sleep by radio at night. But AM? Hmmm. Personally, I'll advise him to put an Islamic service on it if he comes to me for ideas! (Could explain why nobody asks me, I s'pose. Heh heh.)

So then.

What's happening at 10pm on Merseyland Alternative Radio on Bank Holiday Monday?

Is it the new home of Pete Price?

I think we should be told!

Strange thing is though on the licence application he still gives a address in this country??

Hmmm. A bit odd. But he has (or had) addresses in a number of different countries, so maybe there's some business reason. I suppose it's no different to Rupert Murdoch having a core business based in Australia but applying for stuff in the UK or in the USA. People with loadsamoney always seem to do apparently odd things like that, but it's usually something to do with money, so I'm guessing that could be the reason. I'll try and make contact with the gentleman concerned and see if I can get the dilly on what's going down. He's a hard man to track down though. Never has a mobile, rarely gives out a landline beyond his UK one, and often replies whilst on his yacht complaining about his slow satellite data connection. So, we'll see what he says.
