Blimey, Mr W from this neck of the woods, where abouts? I'm on the Petts
Wood / St.Paul's Cray border, right up by the 'Woods Hood'. I believe
Richard is somewhere nearby, don't know if he had the same problems?

Yes when we moved here a year ago we also had problems with TV reception at first but a 10ft pole soon put that right,

I was aware that Eric also used to live in Orpington because we had a long chat about it once, I will let him give out the info ref the area if he wants to.

When things first migrated to FM from AM, did you also refuse to
install an external Antenna?

DOH – wish I had thought of that :-)
As it goes I do remember living in a place called Gravenhurst and having to put an enormous FM antenna to get decent signals – wish I'd been on commission cos the shop/rigger must have made a fortune after folks heard the difference the HUGE yagi made – oh well

I've said me bit I think :-)

But if you want a real laugh try an FM radio in Orpington High Street, now that's fun.

* Christopher England just said that *

Funnily enough yes, the FM coverage is quite good here, I can get all the Kent, Essex, London and some Surrey Stations with just extending my rod. Why would I want to hear a clone station with just a different badge from any other region?

As long as I can tune into Radio 4 when I'm in a serious mood (Happens on rare ocassions), LBC when I'm feeling a bit camp and want to catch up on the latest wallpaper fashion, Capitol Radio when I want to hear how radio shouldn't be done, Radio Jackie to hear that us old farts are still going, South Radio to cringe, laugh and to make me imagine I'm in hospital listening to the Hospital Radio Channel, KMFM to hear some MFI style radio & Essex Radio to remind me how lucky I am to be in Kent.

Pst........ I get great pleasure in listening to UCB Inspirational.......... don't think you will see that or UCB UK go in a hurry. I know loads of folk who are buying DAB sets to receive these stations.

UCB is a well funded organisation that has campaigned for Christian radio for twenty years. We helped a little in the early nineties in getting them on Sky when I was at QEFM.(logic - the more stations the better).

I hope Planet Rock stays as it is an excellent station and I think 5Live is much better on DAB. Suddenly getting into Kerrang as well.

Different times these days. DAB is the replacement for FM. I am lucky/unlucky not to live in Orpington so I can only go on reception with my kitchen radio. Replaced this radio with the Evoke after a number of incidents where my wife threatened to put that radio where the sun don't shine as the aerial was sticking out at the most dangerous angles just to pick up Five Live, I decided to retire the radio to the bedroom upstairs where it receives wonderfully.

As I stated in my other posting these DAB radios need to be as acceptable as FM on reception. The only people who install external FM aerials in there house are audio anoraks, they are not going to do it for DAB as they have a bigger chip about DAB than the AM'ers,

Whats happened to some of us Anoraks? Article 19 and all
that;especially as the UK is the only country in the world that seems to
think that it's Domestic Law(Broadcasting Act 1990+schedules and
amendments etc and the Comms Act 2003) is higher than International
Law,in relation to certain types of vessels legally trading on the High
Seas.Justified by an article of United Nations 'recommendation' that
piece of UK Law is an illegal disgrace;

Regarding the legislation you talk about above. I think most people would agree that it is over the top and probably illegal. However if you look at all the legislation passed by parliament despite the checks and balances in place it is always over the top. What the country needs to do is weed out bad law making and Implement the existing laws with vigour, what actually happens is judges do not enforce the law, they end up spending most of the time interpreting the law.

If you look back at UK's enforcement of the MOA it has not been extreme, the sticker business of the 70's that everyone talks about was someone going to extreme lengths to make a point and the law then ends up looking an ass.

He was jailed for not paying the fine.

Under strong leadership, the crew of the Ross Revenge, when being
illegally boarded in August 1989,reacted PEACEFULLY to what ensued.

It was not the UK that illegally board the Ross, the UK representation was invited aboard.

This seven million DAB sets sold claim, makes me laugh, it is no different to TV Electricals Company saying we are selling more digital tv's than analogue!!!! – it is just back to "Spin" many of the big retailers only stock DAB radio's it does to name them great or the system.

It is exactly the same with the claim of ever rising Sky sales figures, if you want many sports and you are not in a cable area what competition do they have????
