So, one could argue that WE are the ones out of step with 'the people'
by saying that 300 songs on rotation is wrong. In the days of Laser or
Nova or Atlantic we didn't complain and thought it was wonderful.

It could be that we anoraks are a head of our time.

I think the fundamental differences between unauthorised Offshore Radio

1 The "feel" from the studio from the ship through the ether to our
ears, you don't have that excitement on legal stations.

It could be said that the offshore stations were the first to prove that reality broadcasting could be popular. People are intrested in what other people do, now there's a format that has not been tried on radio, reality radio

So how does that apply to so many non-Anoraks who thought Luxy was a pirate and many thought they were on a ship :-)

Well, maybe the fact that it was NOT the BBC was the factor. Although it never had the "offshore feel", it certainly didn't have the starchiness of Auntie. But as far as I was concerned compared to Caroline/BigL etc it just couldn't compete.

Eric I listened to Radio Luxembourg as a very small boy of 6, my sisters were all older than me, but i just thought it was a name, not a country. It was in the later years of my teens that i realised Luxembourg was the capital ot the Grand Duchy. I never ever thought it was on a ship. It was in 1965 whilst staying at my newly married sisters house in South Shields, my brother in law introduced me to this dutch station playing pop music all day, Radio Veronica. I liked Luxembourg, it's heydey was i think 1968–1971ish, when tony prince, kid jenson paul burnet who made it sound like a pirate, as most of them were all ex pirate jocks. As we all know Luxemborg were NEVER allocated their frequency, they just took it, i suppose they were the most powerful "unauthorised" station in Europe once upon a time. LA and 73s

Quoting a previous Stephen Sullivan contribution:-

I'm not sure what 'reality radio' would be. Do you mean things like Charlie Wolf shouting through a megaphone at the DTI? 'Cos that was brilliant.
