I'm going to be trying out some new techniques including giving away copies of The Sun. Do you think that'll make Liverpudlians love me?

Christopher you and Steve are becoming two "real old codgers" over Pete Price, it is becoming a real regular whinge.
I have said it before if Pete was still not attracting good audience figures, knowing RM the City MD well, I know he would be looking for someone new, though I must say I'm not that impressed with the guy who does the two late shows at the weekend replacing Pete, he is so weak!
The Sun has been a real hot cake over the years and still attracts heated conversation. Not coming from Liverpool , even at the height of the Sun protest, it did not mean a lot to me, even the newsagents across the road from the studios, then in Stanley Street would not stock it. Anyway the Sun caused a fight one day between me and one of my real mates (who had joined City from a London Sales House, even though he was a Scouser) he came in my office and found a copy on my desk, he picked it up and ripped it into small pieces, I'm very placid but it got me really uptight and heated! never have I lost my cool like that, for me it was a matter of principal.

He may be getting good audiences but it still doesn't disguise the fact I can't stand him. Some of his audience/callers are idiots, that just call him up just to call him a "puff", yeah really funny the 5,000th time I heard it
:-) So you can now add me to Steve & CE to the list of Price fans!

Now this is something that still puzzles me. Hillsborough is a subject that even to this day you cannot have a rational discussion about on Merseyside as it causes all amount of bad feeling. So another time another place for that particular discussion. But getting to your point about your colleague, yes you were quite right to get upset. Fair enough if he doesn't want to buy or read it then fine, but as I understand it Liverpool is still part of a democratic country!
For the record I never buy the Sun, I never have, what the Sun printed in 1989 was disgusting, but that isn't the reason that I don't buy it, I just think it is a crap "newspaper".

Steve
There are many presenters that I don't like, but my opinion is not going to make any difference if that person is getting good figures. You must agree it gets boring especially when it is said over and over again!
The Sun and Murock I don't respect! but I have to admit I read it twice a week for sport.

Fair comment, well made, BUT I'm not dissing Pete Price, just saying he's covering my airtime for a little bit too long. It's time he moved over and let me get to air.

Nah, he's got me.
Anyway, Pete's signed a five year deal I think, so that sort of stuffs things for being moved around just yet.

It's one of those intimidation things. You get a small bunch of thugs who've decided that nobody's allowed to sell something (they are probably the same louts the Sun article was actually about in the first place), and so shops won't stock it for fear that the thugs will trash them or urinate over the shop keepers.
It's time Liverpool freed itself from this Mafia!

For clarity, I was not intending to undermine Eric's achievements. My congratulations were sincere.
My questions were a genuine probe in how Eric measured success. I hope that Eric took it as I had intended.

Hallo everyone. On http://www.friendsofbigl.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2800
you can read about possible financial problems at BigL. Greetings of Nico from Gouda, the Netherlands.
I had always presumed that it was most likely that the Big L staff did not get paid.
How many £20k-30k salaries does it pay out?
It makes the operational cost huge after transmitter and Sky delivery costs are funded.
I just don't get how this is even mildy affordable.
Heard of Rickrolling? Been Rickrolled?
I've been Rickrolled numerous times on Youtube, damn it. But what I don't fully understand is why the cult of Scientology is now being constantly Rickrolled. Can't seem to find out what the connection is.
Sigh. I've given up looking to find out "Why?".
Never Gonna Give You Up.....!

The point being, surely, that any 'vanity' station that's funded by people who can afford to bankroll it for whatever reason – kudos, power, mental condition – is that it is affordable by them in the first place. The people 'running' the station don't have to answer to any real commercial pressures whatsoever, 'cos the 'owners' just keep on paying for it all, such is their ego. Nice gig if you can get it! Ideally if the guy/guys you are sapping are so rich they can fund the station (as they might fund any hobby) for 50 years then you're well happy. Probably though, most rich folk start to run out of this throwaway money after a few years, so that could be what's happening now for Big L Frinton.

Haven't played it. Speaking of Messenger, is it me or is it morphing into Facebook in look and feel?
I tend to favour Goggle Talk, being a Google Apps anorak, so don't use Messenger much these here days.
Google Apps. Wonderful. Have a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0

could the credit crunch mean the end for BIG L??
Blimey, I was shocked. It's true then.
There IS a new radioship headed for the North Sea! And they're flaunting themselves on Youtube:

Chris you are the all time bestest wind up merchant ever, that was so cruel and so heartless. I truly believed your story and swiftly clicked on the link, my heart beating faster in anticipation. Unless there's a message in the song title, Never Gonna GIve You (offshore radio) Up,(dream on) i feel so deflated now i'll have to have a couple of cans of Kronenburg to cheer me up, chris that was a c***s trick. But bloody funny as oot LA and 73s
Everyone needs a hobby of some sorts – some fly planes, others race cars and some run radio stations.
Better than keeping your money in the bank or worse still, the share market only to see it crash ..
– have fun and use it, spread it around .. enjoy it.
If Big L is funded privately then that's great – besides there might be tax write-offs which lesson the blow. Whichever way it's done it has delivered Big L to todays audience and I was reading that this Big L has surpassed the offshore Big L in actual broadcasting days.
