I'd fallen asleep last night forgetting the radio was on and tuned to
the blank carrier on 675 and was rudely awoken by a Depeche Mode track
suddenly appearing at 7.22 this morning! I've no idea what's going on
Richard. I've heard all sorts of rumours including that Arrow have just
last week leased (or possibly sold) the 675 tx to a mystery buyer. If
that's the case then why are they still paying for the tx to be fired
up? I guess Time will tell. Still it's good to have them for a little
while longer.
Hi Giles, There are quite a few rumours circulating at the moment about what is going to happen with this frequency from Big L to Nova taking it over,
I dont really want to add to them but we can look at some facts as we know them, Could Big L afford it? We have been told in the past that the station is loosing £50.000 a month and the running costs of this tx would only make things worse for them, On the other hand for quite some time now presenters at the station have been saying that soon they will have a signal which will cover most of the UK, Does this mean taking over 675 or moving to the rumoured new 1395 tx site we have been hearing about? Only time will tell!!
Here is another Big L related rumour for you, For some time now we have been hearing that Ray Anderson has a ship, What ship or what is is going to be used for has not been made clear but over on the UK On Air forum one guy is saying that the vessel is now anchored off of Harwich,
I think myself this is just a wind up i will tell you for why, If Ray was to broadcast from the ship he would need a RSL and non is shown on the current Ofcom list, Plus what would be the point, if it was to be used to relay Big L with only 1 watt it would only cover the same area as 1395,
Then we come to Nova, A while ago before we heard about Arrow leaving 675 Chris Cary on his own board was asking for reception reports from around the country for the frequency, Did he know something in advance?
I haven't listened my self yet but i believe Chris has relaunched Nova as a internet only station, Could he afford to take over 675 who knows?
I was hoping some of our Dutch friends would be able to come on here and clarify what is going to happen with the frequency,
WOW!! I haven't posted so much in a while, I think i will have to go and have a lie down now LOL

I stepped by the Radio Nova stream on Friday night. It was very good. A bright mixture of modern up-tempo tunes, a few classics, but a nice mix in touch with today, I thought.
But, sigh. I was wrong. This was obviously a Friday night thing. People in radio have this weird idea that Friday nights must be programmed with up-beat dancing tunes, and so it was only Nova following the same trend and copying everybody else.
I step by Nova again this morning and I could be listening to Gold – except Gold plays a larger rotation of songs and they are not all as predictable as the Nova playlist.
Listening to Nova today is like going to your grand-parents golden anniversary party and just being able to shuffle from foot to foot whilst holding a fish-paste sandwich. Surely Nova was never this bad?
I mean, swaying gently from foot to foot to the predictable and highly overplayed sounds of:
Wet Wet Wet – Love Is All Around
Ultravox – Vienna
T'pau – China In Your Hand
Procol Harum – Whiter Shade Of Pale
Police – Walking On The Moon
Paul McCartney – Coming Up
..pleeeeese? How many times have these been played and overplayed and played again?
And then somewhere in amongst all that is a muffled recording of that dead bloke with the deep voice who everybody un-originally had jingles made by (remember that awful era?), saying something ever so funny about Nova.
It's very sad that the name Nova that apparently used to impress and motivate da yoof of Ireland, is now doing everything it was supposedly set-up to rebel against.
The following was posted by Chris Cary on his own board in answer to the question, Is he interested in taking over 675?
Yes its quite true I would very much like to rent the 675am from Arrow rock At a price that is sensible (cheap) big L is also in the running Caroline as well one would Hope. You could buy a small house for the cost each week, what ever happens the music has got to stay the same have no fear.
Make of it what you will!!

I had a listen the other week and it didn't do anything for me either. I don't mind listening to oldies stations as long as they don't play the same few over and over. Talking about Gold I tuned in for a few hours yesterday and was quite impressed musically, it wasn't all the usual tracks that were played on Capital/Classic/Magic. I hope it stays that way, and I hope they are not rotated too much. As for the presentation, well that sucks I'm afraid! "It's all about the music" is already p***ing me off!

And da yoof of NW England! I grew up listening to Nova and it was a big part of my musical education, but hey it was a different era then, it just shows you can't turn the clock back! Great memories though!
