Quoting a previous Eric Wiltsher contribution:-

As a smoker, not to mention being asthmatic [yeah I know], I've
certainly argued the freedom of choice theme, but to be honest we
smokers are a bit daft.
As a non-smoker, I have no objection to smokers smoking. They can do what they want.
I do, however, object to them making me smoke or making my hair or clothes smell of smoke. Most smoking environments make my eyes hurt and give me a cough if I'm in them for more than a few minutes. That's why I don't go to pubs or similar smokey places in the UK. Yet, in Ireland the pubs are, for me, a pleasure to sit in.
But, like I said, if smokers want to smoke, let them. As long as they don't force me or young children to smoke, that's all.

Wow this is scary. I could have written exactly the same words apart from not going to pubs in the UK.
I agree 100% with everything else.
And I'll tell you what was pretty strange about my last trip to Dublin, there was a group of about 20 of us, in which there were only a couple of smokers, and even they said how great it was to go into a smoke free pub, and not stink of smoke afterwards, really strange!

I agree they are very pleasant places to be in now.

I too have no objections to them smoking outside a pub/restaurant or any other building, in the cold damp rain, snow etc.!

Try Gooling CQ100
It seems that radio amateurs are now able to achieve perfect results without RF:
- no masts to annoy the neighbours
- no radio frequency interference to annoy the neighbours
- no expensive hardware
- no soldering irons
You can have QSOs with simulated fading, interference, and noise.
Apparently, you can also opt to do it in morse code.
You just tune to the calling frequency using your soft receiver, call CQ and your off.
Apparently, it getting very popular and the virtual band space is starting to fill up.
You just have to pretend that you are doing it for real.
But didn't anoraks do pretend radio first?
No. But I am personally acquainted with a weatherman
on AL jazeera if that helps.

So then. Al Gore's fav TV station: Current TV (Sky
229).
Anybody watching it?

Not a lot, although it's interesting.
Current TV keeps stealing me away from Al Jazeera. I guess it'll be like that till I've seen all the pods. Then I'll get bored and moan about the high rotation and lack of anything new.
I suspect the future of TV is 5 to 7 minute long programmes. The concept of having to produce to fill what the public perceive as 30 minute or 60 minute broadcast slots will be a thing of the past.
How will Anoraks cope?
I see that IOMIB shareholder David Parr's been active with his domains, although they appear to be designed to tease and take the pee out of Anoraks, giving them false hope, possibly getting some kind of kick out of the process.
Having said that, there has mainly been instant disappointment and let down for those whose hopes he may have gotten up.
Firstly, his radiocarolineforum domain got everybody excited because it promised something new and exciting. People waited anxiously for the great revelation to happen. And what happened? Well, it ended up pointing at the Yahoogroups Caroline Mailing list. New and exciting? What a let down after such a tease!
Secondly, his plethora of domains that include the phrase "caroline279" or "radiocaroline279" within them – he's bought up the lot – keep promising lots of exciting revelations coming soon about the "Caroline 279 Project".
Now then, his mate William has started a random thread on Chris Cary's Board trying to promote the "Caroline 279 project", and doing that pretend thing of suggesting that the Caroline 279 Project will be starting on August 14th (rather than April 1st!!).
So, why are these chaps hell bent on winding up Anoraks? Is it because they've lost all their money in the great IOMIB scandal and just want something to believe in? Or is it far more sinister?
As an aside, wasn't Mr Parr in charge of the IOMIB website too? I can't remember. I ask, 'cos that's now removed everything apart from a weird holding statement that would certainly discourage anybody from believing they were ever going to get their money back!
I think we should be told the truth about what games these guys are playing at the expense of poor old Anoraks, don't you?
