And what of the Doctor who was trying to quietly and carefully talk
through a precision procedure to help surgeons on t'other end save a
life? Are you now happy that the patient died?

Or the lady who was trying to talk her son from throwing himself off a
bridge? Did he plummet to his painful death thinking his mother didn't
care about him and had hung up on him, when in reality you'd
disconnected them during his last moments?

Depends if he's an Ipswich fan or not! Seriously though, its only the loudies I struggle with, a large minority of mobile users seem to understand the fact that there's no need to share their dull little lives with the rest of us. But as you know well, It's never the above. It's always the dreary woman on about whether to have beans on toast or turkey twizzlers for tea, or the fat teenage girl yelling about how many feckless idiotic lads saw her minge last night (heard on the Burwell to Cambridge bus on Friday). I imagine the poor bastards would have been scarred for life. Tedious. All tedious.

Have I made you feel guilty yet?

Er, no. Not nearly as guilty as I feel talking about such trivia when one considers the original message to this thread.

See, I don't have a problem with doing something to annoy those who
believe they must shout on their mobiles (We've dealt with this before,
methinks.), but I don't believe that we should penalise all those who
are quiet and careful responsible users of mobile telephony.

Agreed- see above. Doesn't mean I have to have one of the bloody things though!

It's a bit like banning all pubs because a few people come out of them
completely drunk and commit their tedious acts of anti-social behaviour
like driving drunk and killing people, or, worse, urinating in phone
boxes. Even as a non-drinker I'd not be for that. (Death penalty for
the offenders maybe, but banning pubs, not really.)

I wouldn't know about pub closing time any more. I got married you see and am not allowed out that late! Right, I'm off on the bike now across the fens to spot a few marsh harriers, golden plovers, fieldfares etc. Mercifully without a phone though possibly with my faithful transistor radio! Phew, back to radio.

Regards
Giles.

Good programme today from Steve Underground, Unfortunately i haven't been able to listen to it all because i had to go out,

He seems to be on his own and was talking about replaying some old programmes from Dave and Andy The latter seems to be in Germany and Steve was saying he may be on Mystery Radio (shortwave) later on,

Steve went on to say they are running only 15 watts on 1476 at the moment and if this is the case its a good signal here and doesn't sound any different to the previous stated power of 20 watts.

Steve also said there may be another change of frequency soon So if Dave is reading this he may like to enlighten us.

Regards

Richard

Well, well, what excitement.

I log on to Anorak Nation, and what do I find in the centre of the main page? An exciting exclusive picture of the actual CFA that's due to be used to bring us love peace and good music on 279!

I had to look very closely, because I was sure it had been photoshopped, although it's very hard to tell. It looks genuine to me.

What do you think? Is it real?

It is certainly more convincing than any other similar pictures we have been shown so far on the various websites. It is, I therefore conclude, real.

I can't see where they put the special refrigeration units, though. This particular CFA relies on a belch-driven-oscillator, but to ensure this is operating at the correct frequency, don't they have to keep the CFA really really cold?

No it is a fake.

If you look very closely, the '279' on the pointy end of the boat looks much sharper than the rest of the picture.

Saying that, of course, presuming it is an old boat converted for radio use, that is likely the be the last thing painted on it.

No no no no no. You're mistaking it for CFA Extra Cold Draught, which this is clearly not an example of. The pictured CFA does not need to be kept at such cold temperatures and a soft sea breeze should be sufficient to keep it stable.

Well, I bow to your superior technical knowledge on this matter. But, with it not being the CFA-ECD, won't it be less strong by the time it gets to us?

Yes, I did notice that, but since my heart was skipping a beat I dismissed it as a trick of the winter light.

I'll be very disappointed if this turns out to be another false hope.

Nope. The temperature doesn't affect the strength at all. It may appear to give the effect of being stronger, but that's all psychological, trust me. This CFA (draught) should merely provide a warmer sound than the ECD.

Hi Richard and all,
The power of the rig is 20 watts when it starts the broadcast, I suppose he's saying 15 watts as that's likely power after half a days programs. Yes Mr Andy Walker is out of the country at the moment, as a matter of fact he's been away so long they may mistake him for a illegal immigrant when he does come back!

No shows from me as I have been building this new rig that Mr Underground insists on having, it's for 846 kHz, 25 watts carrier out. Saying that, I intend to put a few progs in the can so Steve can take them back with him when he comes to my place in about 10 days time.

BTW don't forget to check our web page from time to time as I often stream old recordings on the net, there is 2 ways to listen, both explained on the site, http://here.is/wnkr

Cheers all,

dave.

846khz Dave, wouldn't that encroach on Mr Badger and co's (Enigma) little portion of the AM?

I think Badger knows about it and if he doesn't he soon will as they are all due to meet up at a certain watering hole in Redhill this Tuesday evening.

Ah yes the Home Cottage meet, never been to that one.

Can I assume this could result in a little channel sharing then?

Chris .. you should be concentrating more on the other well known offshore radio vessel from your past .. probably not too much "cut and paste" required either !!
