Don't know the guy so can't comment, but couldn't help thinking your comments apply equally well on Radio 2 to people like Jonathan Ross and Chris Evans.

From http://blogs.rnw.nl/medianetwork/?p=6743:
A fire devastated the premises of Gure Irratia on Tuesday night in
Uztaritze (Ustaritz), destroying the headquarters, as well as material
and work gathered in more than 25 years. Computers, telephones, books,
and much more was burnt down, and the high temperatures have severely
damaged electronic equipment.
Did you get to see the sad pictures of the station?
And, they'd just moved into a brand new digital complex, too.

FYI, he was never 'banned'. You are misrepresenting the actual facts:
He remains free to use Anorak Nation to discuss on-topic about radio,
and it's never been any different.
He was banned from making 'off-topic' posts. As a fair amount of postings on here are off-topic with regard to radio I would call that a 'ban'.

Heh, I recall (allegedly) driving the getaway vehicle after the somewhat eccentric operator of Weed FM plastered that monstrosity with flyposters. I do hope this unfortunate statue riding episode wasn't associated with its proximity to the famous Cains Real Ale brewery and pub, young Christopher?

Egads, I fucking well hope so. We certainly need it around these parts.

Got a link to these plans, Chris?
City tried a talk station years ago, it didn't work then and I don't reckon it'll work now.
BBC Merseyside is mostly talk stylee radio already, with nor a lorra listeners.
The Pete Price phone in on City seems to consist of stupid people calling to see if they can call Pete a "puff" before they get cut off by the delay; which is mildly amusing at first, but after the 10000th attempt becomes a little tedious.
Oh great, more of that on my radio. I can hardly wait...
:
: I can't see how an expansion of real choice would have come from
: giving the licence to any other Borg or a non-Borg organisation, can
: you guys?
Local choice on a proper radio with FM and AM is restricted to:
KCR/The Rocket: Currently in schizophrenic mode after being bought back but oddly still playing both idents :/
Juice FM: Was once Crash FM and actually provided -some- alternative music until taken over. Now a City clone.
Buzz FM: Supposed to be "Wirral's" local station but is mostly networked from Wrexham in N.Wales.
EMAP's City and Magic 1548: Typical EMAP fodder, no more description needed!
I challenge you to hear any discernable difference on ANY of the above stations in their bland lowest common denominator advertiser-safe output...pop from the charts, the same inevitable oldies, inane chat from presenters with a personality defecit and a few token dance music shows at weekends.
Yawn.
I can't hear any rock music on FM, (unless I turn my TX on!)
I can't hear any reggae ( until TTFM's richly deserved community licence starts up, and then low power will restrict it to the town centre)
No punk music, no oldies that aren't hideously overplayed, no asian music, no drum n bass, no jungle, no garage, no hip-hop...need I go on?
Personally I think it is a disgrace that EMAP have gained yet another licence in Liverpool, someone else should have been given a chance.

I agree with you Les .... if he is allowed to talk "ON topic" only then it goes without saying he's banned fropm "OFF topic" ... that's a logic most people would understand ... CE can't be that daft ... perhaps he loves us really ... nice to be loved by the self appointed "Pope" of free radio innit !!!

Well then Les, let's hope you'll steer Anorak Nation back onto the path of true righteousness by giving us shining examples of on-topic posts by joining in with one of the discussions about radio, eh?

BigL seems to be a bit more "zippy" in the last fews days ... I hope so since they only need raplacements for Steve "ID"Garlic and Ray "Beatalls" (yes, that's how he says it) Anderson and they've got a half decent station with MR, RLR and DH as the nucleus. That's my opinion so there .... It will be interesting to see BigL's RAJAR figs next time. Graham |

Graham, curb this, eh? Can we keep things on-topic about radio rather than this tendency to just constantly slag-off contributors?
On a similar note, here's something for everybody:
I realise that some people are sat here trying to destroy Anorak Nation by using it for anything but discussions about radio, I assume, until everybody just gives up on using it. That's fine by me because then we can close the damn thing down and everybody can naff off to whichever sites will next have 'em (I assume they'll try to destroy them too, as part of their sad sport of not being able to debate!), and I can stop wasting my life administrating a system I actually have very limited interest in.
However, it isn't fair on those who do like this place and want to use it, so I have to make some attempt to try to get it buzzing with conversations of an anoraky nature about broadcasting and techie-stuff and that sort of malarkey.
So, here's the policy for everybody:
1) If you don't like Anorak Nation, don't come here. Certainly don't post here about how much you hate it or detest the people who do bother to post on it. I'm sure you can continue slagging it off from afar, but it will be my duty to contact ISPs and the administrators of any board I find unfair unconstructive unsubstantiated attacks on to report the abuse if it goes too far.
I'm not meaning the gentle good-natured banter, long may it continue. I'm targeting the spiteful and aggressive stuff posted by the bullies.
2) If you use Anorak Nation for unfair sustained personal attacks on contributors, never really discussing any points they've made, then you will be moderated and your posts will be checked and released or rejected depending on content. It will be assumed that you are deliberately attempting to destroy Anorak Nation.
This policy of moderating you is far more laid-back than, say, Digital Spy's where you are just banned, full-stop.
3) There is a big difference between a good-natured banter about me as Christopher England and my style or the things I've said and an obsession with trying to talk about my private life or making defamatory remarks about me as a private individual. If you have a problem with me or the things I say, and become so obsessed that you feel you need to spend your life discussing me as a person (rather than challenging my points of discussion through debate), dissing me, being rude and personal about me, or driven to starting innuendo or rumour about me or my private life, then I will report your abuse as well. Where your obsession and abuse wanders into areas where it endangers my family and my home I will continue to pass on information about you to the police and you will be stopped legally.
4) Anorak Nation is not Christopher England. A sustained attack on Anorak Nation doesn't hurt Christopher England.
Right then. We all know where we stand now, eh?

Clearly a POT - KETTLE - BLACK posting in reply to my own which was deliberately sent (tongue in cheek) to illicit a reply Chris.
Yup I'll curb anything inappropriate by all means but I reserve the right to have a go at people who have a dig at me (as you yourself quite rightly do).
You have suggested by implication that I am a member of the "AN great unwashed" but I've taken it on the chin just as I have comments about not trimming postings and having (in error) the name of Jones Jones.
Interesting that this morning's posting from me about Big L has not had any response yet despite being well on topic.
I think this site is great for a natter about radio as well as topics that spin off it - long may it continue !!!

As somebody who's not listening so can't agree or disagree from personal examination, but is interested, how exactly is it more 'zippy'? Is it the links, the playlist, the jingles? What have they changed?
It will be interesting to see BigL's
RAJAR figs next time.
I suspect there's still a large number of folk who've not heard of it. These days you seem to have to spend a fortune on constant advertising a station in order to get people to even attempt to tune away from their usual selection.
I'd predict it'll be up a tiny bit, but not a great leap.

A fine hospital I'm sure, not spent any time there yet I'm very glad to say. Liverpool gets a lot of stick, but the people here truly have a great sense of humour.

Eh? I am one of the minority of males who can't stand football, but I completely fail to see yer point as to the relevance of that with my posting on a radio forum?

Narr, I went to Teh Skule of Hard Knocks on the door from Ofcom, kidder.

Surely there is a major difference between making off topic postings
and offensive personal attacks as Mr. West was.

But surely anybody posting here is part of the great anorak unwashed? And that's the point.

Maybe the anoraks have to wait until their nurses type their comments in for them? Anyway, I replied as soon as it plopped in me box.

I think there's far too many radio discussion sites! A lot of them have the same people writing the same thing in all of them, then the same replies from the same repliers. It's like a Deja Vu.
